M 106 GALAXY on 2024-01-20 - CLOSE IN

M 106, also labeled NGC 4258, is the largest galaxy in this picture. M 106 is about 23 million light-years from our Earth. The Galaxy contains an active nucleus classified as a Type 2 Seyfert, with a central supermassive black hole.

This photo was taken in Kyle, Texas, through a 6-inch f/4 Telescope, on a Sky-Watcher EQ6-R mount, with a ZWO ASI533MC PRO color camera. The processing was done in PixInsight. The total image acquisition time is: 4 hrs 16 min 0 sec. 

M 106 and NGC 4217 - WIDE FIELD VIEW

 

 M 106 including NGC 4217, which is the second largest galaxy in the Wide Field View. NGC 4217 is near the bottom and to the right of M 106. It appears as an edge-on galaxy with a dark dust lane. NGC  4217 lies farther away than M 106 at about 60 million light-years from the Earth. If you zoom in and look carefully, numerous other tiny galaxies can be seen.
